Week 3

Writing our newspapers
We started writing our own newspaper page by writing an advertisement for a holiday destination of our choice. We were focusing on painting a picture in the reader's mind, making it believable, using interesting vocabulary. Some of the destinations included: Africa, Tokyo, Islands, Hawaii, Taupo, Egypt and Rotorua.

Aquagym
We went to swimming lessons at Aquagym every day this week. Each class goes at a different time. We love practicing freestyle and getting more confident in the water. It is very tiring for us all!

Novel
We are reading an awesome novel called 'The Mysterious Benedict Society'. It keeps us hooked in because it's mysterious and it paints really good pictures in our minds. Miss Falkner always stops reading at really interesting bits!

Starting our mixed media art portraits
We are about to start a mixed media portrait of ourselves, based on an A3 photo. We are using crayon, paint, pastel and collage. We will work on these next week.

Dance
Last Friday we started Dance! We had to make frozen pictures with our bodies, like 'tableaus'. We had to put our frozen pictures together and make a new picture.

The best thing about being in Room 27 is...
The teacher! - Robert D
The outstanding classmates. - Owen
Spending time with Miss Falkner and her beautiful face. - Isaac

First two weeks of 2014 in room 27

Hi this is Owen Dabkowski and Issy Wallwork with the Room 27 news.
On the start of school we had four new kids come into class. Their names are Owen, Dom, Kristal, and Ella.
On Tuesday we brought our togs to school because we were going swimming for the first time. When we were down there all we did was swimming laps for the more advanced swimmers. For the not so confident swimmers just practiced on the side. At the end of our time we had free play.
It seemed like most of the week we did testing because they needed to how comfident we were at spelling. We got tested on 290 spelling words each.
Our class was picked to be the big buddies for the new entrants for the entire year! Some people got buddies on Wednesday to look after and others didn't.
On Thursday we did free writing. we had two starters to choose from. They were a turtle doing a speech, and "If you could choose two famous people to be your parents who would they be?" Lots of people choose the turtle speech.
Sports trials started on Thursday. The only trial that day was Cricket but were a lot more later on. All of them were fun!
Last Wednesday we got UV beads. We had all lunch time to figure out what the bead did. After lunch Miss Falkner told us that the beads represented our skin. Except we don't change colour except red. They were also glow in the dark.
On Thursday the 5-6 years had an assembly. Our class gave out three certificates. The people that received them were Robert D, Owen D, Issy W. Robert D got an academic certificate, Owen D got a values certificate, and Issy W got a Heart of Achievement. At the end of the assembly we all sang "Dare to be square." Team 27 had a outstanding first two weeks:)
